Prof. Dieter Wolke receives the 2020 “Distinguished Contributions to British Developmental Psychology” award

Professor Dieter Wolke of the University of Warwick’s Department of Psychology, and Head of the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research group and a collaborator with Warwick Medical School, has been named the 2020 British Psychological Society’s winner of the award for Distinguished Contributions to British Developmental Psychology.

Professor Wolke is one of the most influential and most highly cited researchers over the last decade, according to Web of Science, across 21 research fields. His research investigates why some children and adolescents develop mental health or social problems and others don’t.

He has therefore investigated the consequences of being born preterm and early regulatory problems such as excessive crying or poor sleep from birth into adulthood. Furthermore, he studies how sibling or peer bullying and parenting alters developmental outcome.

The award will be presented at the BPS Developmental Psychology Section Annual Conference 2020 in Sheffield in September 2020.

Commenting on his being named winner of the Distinguished Contributions to British Developmental Psychology award Professor Wolke said:

“I am very delighted that I am the 2020 Distinguished Contribution to British Developmental Psychology Award winner. I have to thank my team over the last 3 decades including Ph.D. students, postdocs and colleagues who have all contributed to the important findings on developmental pathways of infants born with or into risk conditions across childhood into adulthood”.
